Pakistan Army Major martyred, 12 militants killed in separate counterterrorism operations

ISLAMABAD - A Pakistan Army major was martyred while leading troops during a counterterrorism operation in the country's northwest, as security forces killed 12 militants in separate intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, the military said on Saturday.

According to the military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major Hafiz Ihsan Elahi, 34, was martyred during an exchange of fire in the Razmak area of North Waziristan while leading his troops from the front. The military said five militants were killed during the operation, and weapons and ammunition were recovered from the site.

In a separate overnight operation in Nushki district of Balochistan, security forces killed seven militants, including an alleged suicide bomber, after identifying and destroying their hideout. The military said explosives, ammunition and improvised explosive devices were also destroyed.

ISPR described the militants as members of groups it refers to as "Fitna Al Khwarij" and "Fitna al Hindustan," alleging they were backed by India. India has consistently rejected Pakistan's allegations of supporting militant groups.

The military said sanitization operations were continuing in both areas to clear any remaining militants.
