US Vice President heads to Islamabad for Iran talks, expresses optimism

By The South Asia Times

WASHINGTON - US Vice President JD Vance has departed from Washington, D.C. for Islamabad on Friday to lead the US delegation in high-stakes talks with Iran, expressing optimism ahead of the talks.

Vance said the negotiations are expected to be “positive,” noting that he is traveling with “special instructions” from President Donald Trump. He added that he hopes the discussions will proceed constructively and yield meaningful outcomes.

According to officials, the US delegation is expected to arrive in Islamabad within the next 18 hours, with formal talks scheduled to begin on Saturday afternoon.

The talks come amid heightened regional tensions and follow a recently announced ceasefire between the United States and Iran, which diplomats hope could pave the way for a broader and lasting agreement.

The Islamabad talks are being closely watched globally as a key diplomatic effort to reduce tensions and advance peace in the Middle East.
