Trump threatens UK, NATO in explosive Truth Social rant: "Go get your own oil!" British PM reject his threats

By The South Asia Times

WASHINGTON - US President Donald Trump unleashed a blistering series of posts on Truth Social late Wednesday, threatening to abandon key NATO allies, specifically the United Kingdom, over the ongoing crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, while simultaneously claiming that Iran has been "decimated" and is now begging for a ceasefire.

The posts, which mark a dramatic escalation, come when Pakistan attempting to bring US and Iran on table to end the ongoing Middle East crisis.

In his most striking post, Trump turned his attention to the United Kingdom and other nations struggling with energy security due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint through which approximately 20% of the world's oil passes.

"All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you," Trump wrote.

"Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT."

The president then issued a stark warning to NATO allies who have not participated in military actions against Iran.

"You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us," he continued. "Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!"

- Ceasefire Demands

In a separate post, Trump claimed that Iran's new leadership has reached out to Washington seeking a halt to hostilities.

"Iran’s New Regime President, much less Radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE!" Trump wrote.

However, he attached strict conditions to any potential truce.

"We will consider when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear. Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!"

There is no response from Iran over Trump latest claim.

- France on Notice

Trump also took aim at France, accusing Paris of blocking military support for Israel.

"The Country of France wouldn’t let planes headed to Israel, loaded up with military supplies, fly over French territory. France has been VERY UNHELPFUL with respect to the 'Butcher of Iran,' who has been successfully eliminated!" he wrote.

"The U.S.A. will REMEMBER!!!"

There was no immediate response from France over Trump latest statement.

- UK PM Starmer Responds: "We Will Not Join the War"

The US president's threats drew a swift and defiant response from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

In remarks described by commentators as "courageous" and showing "spine," Starmer firmly rejected pressure to escalate London's involvement in the conflict.

"There is a lot of pressure on me to change my position in relation to joining the war," Starmer said. "I am not going to change my position, we will not join the war."

The British leader's stance places London at odds with Trump's demands, setting up a potential transatlantic rift should the US  president return to power or continue to wield significant influence over US foreign policy.

Trump's aggressive social media campaign stands in stark contrast to the quiet diplomatic efforts currently being led by Pakistan, where Field Marshal Asim Munir has successfully brought US and Iranian representatives to the brink of formal peace talks in Islamabad.

Observers note that while Trump's posts threaten "blasting Iran into oblivion," his own administration is simultaneously preparing to sit across the table from Iranian diplomats in the Pakistani capital -- a contradiction that highlights the complex dynamics at play within Washington's foreign policy apparatus.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a flashpoint, with Iran asserting control over the waterway while the US and its allies demand free passage. Trump's suggestion that allies "just take it" by force raises the specter of a direct military confrontation that his own officials are reportedly working to avoid.

As of late Wednesday, there was no immediate response from NATO headquarters or the French government to Trump's posts. The White House declined to comment on statements made by the president.

Meanwhile, diplomatic sources in Islamabad confirm that preparations continue for the anticipated arrival of US and Iranian delegations for peace talks, despite the incendiary rhetoric emanating from Trump's social media accounts.

Whether the president's threats represent actual policy positions or campaign-style bombast remains unclear. What is certain, however, is that the alliance structures that have defined Western security for decades are facing unprecedented strain, and the Strait of Hormuz has become their breaking point.
