Over 80 U.S. Companies Employ 120,000 Pakistanis, Support One Million More in Economic Boost

By The South Asia Times

PESHAWAR- More than 80 U.S. companies operating in Pakistan have directly employed around 120,000 Pakistani workers and indirectly supported nearly one million others, underscoring the growing economic footprint of American businesses in the country, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker said during a visit to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Speaking in Nowshera on Tuesday, Baker highlighted how U.S. investment and corporate social responsibility initiatives are contributing to local economic growth, skills development, and education across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Her visit aimed to showcase how deeper U.S.-Pakistan economic cooperation can help unlock the province’s potential and deliver shared prosperity.

As part of the visit, the U.S. envoy officially inaugurated a new KFC restaurant in Nowshera and toured a KFC-supported Deaf Reach School, pointing to it as an example of how American brands partner with Pakistani organizations to create social impact alongside business growth.

“Today’s opening is a model for how American brands, working with Pakistani partners, contribute directly to local economic growth,” Baker said. “KFC’s support for initiatives such as Deaf Reach Schools demonstrates that responsible businesses improve lives and expand opportunity.”

Since 2014, KFC has supported Pakistan’s deaf community by funding education, vocational training, and employment opportunities for young people nationwide. The Deaf Reach Schools are operated by the Family Education Services Foundation, a non-governmental organization founded by American philanthropists Richard Geary and Heidi Gustanski-Geary.

U.S. officials say such initiatives reflect a broader trend of American companies combining investment with community development. According to the U.S. Embassy, U.S. firms across sectors have invested heavily in Pakistan, creating tens of thousands of direct jobs while sustaining livelihoods for about one million people through supply chains and related industries.

Baker emphasized that stronger trade and investment ties deliver tangible benefits for both countries, from job creation in Pakistan to expanded market opportunities for U.S. companies.
