SEOUL- At least nine people have been killed and several others remain missing after four days of torrential rains triggered deadly landslides and flash floods in southern South Korea, authorities said on Saturday.

In Sancheong County, South Gyeongsang Province, multiple landslides swept through villages, killing at least five people and leaving two missing. One person was found in cardiac arrest after their home was buried under debris in the morning, while another landslide in a nearby village killed two more. A mudslide around noon claimed two additional lives and left one person unaccounted for, according to Yonhap News Agency.

Another fatality was reported in the nearby city of Miryang, where a man in his 60s died after floodwaters swept away his vehicle.

Authorities confirmed five deaths, two people missing, and two more in cardiac arrest in the province on Saturday alone. Emergency crews are continuing search and rescue operations.

Sancheong County issued urgent evacuation alerts as parts of the province received more than 700 millimeters of rainfall since Wednesday. Over 7,000 residents have been evacuated, and more than 2,800 remain unable to return home.

Flooded roads, damaged homes, and ongoing downpours have worsened the crisis across the country
