Pakistan's Sharif Highlights Resilience, Economic Recovery in 2026 New Year Message

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday extended heartfelt greetings to all Pakistanis at home and abroad, reflecting on the nation’s resilience over 2025 and pledging renewed efforts for 2026.

In his annual New Year message, Sharif said the past year tested Pakistan in many ways but also reaffirmed its collective strength and self-belief. He highlighted efforts to stabilize the economy, restore confidence, and promote sustainable growth, crediting the sacrifices and determination of the Pakistani people.

The prime minister praised the armed forces for their courage in countering terrorism and defending the nation, while noting progress in governance, social protection, investment, energy security, and structural reforms.

"Over the past year, we responded to the aggression of enemies and countered the menace of terrorism with matchless courage and bravery, both on the battlefield and in negotiation rooms. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir demonstrated exemplary military leadership that the whole world has come to respect and admire. We are immensely proud of our army, our air force and our navy who taught our enemy that wars are won with heart and not by hubris," he said.

Sharif emphasized the importance of innovation, technology, education, and youth empowerment as drivers of long-term development. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to cultural heritage, social welfare, and international cooperation, advocating dialogue over confrontation and peace over division.

“With unity, discipline, and hard work, we shall build a Pakistan that is economically strong, socially just, and resilient in the face of challenges,” he said, wishing citizens a year filled with peace, opportunity, and success.
