Pakistan successfully tests indigenously developed 'Taimoor' cruise missile

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Navy has successfully conducted a live weapon firing of the indigenously developed "Taimoor" Air-Launched Cruise Missile, an anti-ship weapon system designed to neutralize enemy sea-based threats at extended ranges, the military's media wing announced Tuesday.

The test firing demonstrated exceptional precision, validating the Navy's combat capability to detect, target, and decisively engage hostile naval assets, according to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement.

The successful demonstration "marks a pivotal elevation of national defence capability, further strengthening Pakistan Armed Forces' multi-dimensional coordinated strike posture and capabilities in the conventional domain," the ISPR said.

The Taimoor missile system is entirely indigenous, reflecting Pakistan's growing self-reliance in advanced defence technologies amid regional security challenges.

The test comes at a sensitive time, as Pakistan hosts high-stakes diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran, with the Strait of Hormuz -- a critical maritime chokepoint -- remaining a flashpoint in the ongoing crisis.

While the ISPR statement made no direct reference to regional events, the timing of the missile test underscores Pakistan's focus on safeguarding its maritime interests and sovereign waters amid heightened naval activity in the Arabian Sea and Persian Gulf.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces, and all Services Chiefs congratulated the scientists and engineers of Pakistan Navy on achieving this significant milestone, the ISPR added.

"Pakistan Navy stands resolute in its commitment to safeguard the nation's maritime interests and sovereign waters," the statement concluded.

The successful test of the Taimoor missile adds a powerful new dimension to Pakistan's conventional deterrence capabilities, particularly in the naval domain.
