Pakistan strongly condemns Israeli airstrikes on Syrian airbase, calls for international action

ISLAMABAD -
Pakistan has issued a strong condemnation of the recent Israeli airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur Airbase in Idlib, Syria, denouncing the attack as an unprovoked provocation and a flagrant violation of international law.
The strikes, which took place on Tuesday, targeted the runway and storage facilities at the airbase in northwestern Syria, according to Syrian state media.
While causing material damage, the attacks resulted in no casualties. The Israeli military initially declined to comment but later acknowledged the operation, stating it was carried out because Syria was "about to violate" a security agreement by allowing Turkish forces to deploy at the base.
In an official statement released by the Foreign Office in Islamabad on Wednesday, Pakistan expressed its unwavering solidarity with the people of Syria.
The statement reiterated Pakistan's full support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and prosperity of the Syrian Arab Republic.
"Such provocative actions constitute a flagrant violation of international law and have the potential to further undermine regional peace and stability," the Foreign Office said.
Pakistan also called upon the international community to intervene, urging it to play its role in ending the repeated violations of international law by Israeli forces and to hold them accountable for their destabilizing actions in the region.
The airstrikes have heightened security tensions, drawing reactions from key regional and global players. The United States, through its special presidential envoy for Syria, Tom Barrack, expressed deep concern, calling the strikes an "unnecessary escalation that does not advance regional stability" .
Turkey, a key ally of Syria's new administration, also strongly condemned the attacks. The Turkish Foreign Ministry described Israel's justification for the strikes as "frivolous allegations" aimed at legitimizing unlawful actions against Syria's sovereignty .
