Wedding ceremony suicide bombing in northwestern Pakistan: death toll rises to six, seven still hospitalized

By Mashal Khan

PESHAWAR - The death toll from a suicide bombing that targeted a wedding ceremony in northwestern Pakistan rose to six on Saturday after one of the injured succumbed to his wounds, local police said.

The attack took place late Friday night in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where a suicide bomber struck a wedding ceremony hosted by a member of a local peace committee. Police said more than 20 people were injured in the blast, seven of whom remain hospitalized, while others with minor injuries were discharged after receiving treatment.

According to police, the explosion occurred at the residence of Noor Alam Mehsud, head of a local peace committee, near Qureshi Mor during the wedding celebrations.

The attack comes amid a renewed surge in militant violence across parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where insurgents have increasingly targeted security personnel, civilians and local leaders.

Southern districts of the province, including Dera Ismail Khan, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Tank, North Waziristan and South Waziristan, have witnessed persistent attacks in recent months, according to security officials.

Official records show that Dera Ismail Khan alone has suffered more than 100 terror-related incidents over the past five years, resulting in dozens of police casualties and contributing to prolonged insecurity in the district.
