ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s top leadership has congratulated Türkiye on the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the republic, reaffirming the two countries’ longstanding friendship and commitment to strengthening cooperation in defence, trade, investment and regional security.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his congratulations to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Turkish government and people in a message posted on social media platform X.

Sharif praised Türkiye’s history, cultural heritage and progress, describing its journey as a republic as a reflection of the resilience, courage and determination of its people.

“Pakistan and Türkiye share an exceptional bond of brotherhood, rooted in common history, mutual trust and unwavering solidarity,” he said.

The prime minister added that the two countries’ friendship transcended geographical boundaries and generations, supported by shared values and common aspirations.

He expressed confidence that Islamabad and Ankara would continue working together to promote peace and stability in the region and beyond.

“May the eternal Pakistan–Türkiye brotherhood continue to grow from strength to strength!” Sharif wrote, concluding his message with the Turkish phrase “Yaşasın Pakistan–Türkiye Kardeşliği,” meaning “Long live Pakistan–Türkiye brotherhood.”

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari highlighted the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, defence, education and culture in a congratulatory letter to President Erdoğan.

Zardari said the relationship between the two countries was rooted in their shared history, faith, values and enduring people-to-people ties.

He also praised Türkiye’s progress over the past century, citing its institutional development, economic advancement and growing contributions to regional and international affairs.

The Pakistani president expressed appreciation for the solidarity and support extended by Türkiye’s leadership and people during challenging times, saying the partnership could be further strengthened through closer political engagement and cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

Defence and regional security cooperation

Zardari also referred to the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, expressing confidence that it would strengthen bilateral and trilateral relations and deepen strategic cooperation among Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia.

He said the agreement could contribute to lasting peace, security and stability in the region and beyond.

Pakistan and Türkiye have maintained close political and diplomatic relations for decades, with both countries regularly expressing support for each other on regional and international issues.

Their cooperation spans defence, trade, investment and diplomatic engagement, while their leaders have repeatedly stressed the importance of closer coordination in addressing regional challenges.

The anniversary celebrations come as Islamabad and Ankara continue to emphasise their shared commitment to strengthening ties and expanding cooperation in pursuit of regional stability and mutual prosperity.
