Pakistan Reaffirms One-China Policy Ahead of Foreign Minister’s Visit to Beijing

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan on Friday reiterated its firm support for China on issues related to the Taiwan Strait, reaffirming its adherence to the One-China principle, as Islamabad prepares for high-level diplomatic engagement with Beijing.

Responding to media queries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Mr. Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan and China are “iron-clad friends and all-weather strategic cooperative partners.” He stated that Pakistan consistently supports China on all matters of its core interests, including Taiwan, and regards Taiwan as an inalienable part of the People’s Republic of China.

“We will continue to adhere to the One-China principle,” the spokesperson emphasized, underlining Pakistan’s long-standing position on the Taiwan question.

The statement came a day after Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a detailed briefing session in Islamabad ahead of his forthcoming visit to China, where he will co-chair the 7th Pakistan–China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue.

During the briefing, the Foreign Secretary, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Beijing, and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs apprised the deputy prime minister of the preparations, tentative programme and agenda for the dialogue.

Senator Dar underscored the importance of Pakistan-China relations and instructed officials to prioritize tangible outcomes that would meaningfully advance the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership between the two countries.

Dar is expected  to depart for China on Saturday. The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across political, strategic and regional issues, reflecting the close coordination between Islamabad and Beijing on key international and regional developments.
