OIC and 24 Member States Condemn Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland, Reaffirm Support for Somalia’s Sovereignty

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - In a joint statement issued, the Foreign Ministers of Jordan, Egypt, Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Maldives, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Türkiye, Yemen, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned Israel’s recognition of the so-called “Somaliland” region of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The ministers described Israel’s decision on 26 December 2025 as a serious violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, emphasizing that it undermines the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity of Somalia.

They warned that recognizing parts of states sets a dangerous precedent with serious repercussions for peace and security in the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea region, and globally.

The statement reaffirmed full support for Somalia’s sovereignty and rejected any measures that could threaten the country’s territorial integrity or be linked to attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian people from their land.

The ministers underscored that such unilateral recognitions reflect blatant disregard for international norms and constitute an expansionist move that threatens regional stability.

Through the joint declaration, the OIC and member states called on Israel to reverse its recognition and urged the international community to uphold the principles of state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international peace.
