Pakistan Confers Nishan-e-Pakistan on Visiting President of Kazakhstan

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD -  Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday conferred the Nishan-e-Pakistan, the highest civilian award of Pakistan, on the visiting President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during his historic state visit.

The ceremony took place at Aiwan-e-Sadr, where President Zardari formally presented the award as a symbol of respect, friendship, and the growing strategic partnership between the two nations, according to official statement.

The Nishan-e-Pakistan is Pakistan’s most prestigious civilian honour, awarded to individuals who have rendered services of the highest distinction to the national interest of the country. It is traditionally conferred on visiting heads of state to reflect the strength of bilateral relations.

Following Kazakhstan’s president, President Zardari is also scheduled to confer the award on the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who will arrive in Islamabad on Thursday for a two-day state visit.

The visit will include delegation-level talks with the Prime Minister, meetings with the President, and an address at the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum, aimed at further strengthening economic, cultural, and strategic ties.

Officials say both visits highlight Pakistan’s expanding engagement with Central Asian nations, building on recent milestones, including President of Kazakhstan’s first state visit in 23 years and the signing of 37 agreements formalizing a strategic partnership.

The conferment of the Nishan-e-Pakistan underscores Islamabad’s commitment to deepening diplomatic, economic, and regional cooperation with Tashkent and Nur-Sultan.
