Imran Khan Proposes Peace Delegation to Afghanistan Led by Achakzai

By Sajid Khan

ISLAMABAD — Former prime minister Imran Khan has proposed sending a peace delegation to Afghanistan under the leadership of Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai to hold talks aimed at restoring peace in the region.

In a statement, Khan alleged that a “false flag operation” was being staged against Afghans and tribal people, similar to the events of May 9, and accused the military leadership of deliberately straining ties with Kabul to provoke conflict.

He said threats to the Afghan government, the expulsion of long-settled refugees, cross-border strikes, and new military operations in tribal districts had only resulted in more Pakistani lives being lost, including soldiers, police personnel, and civilians, Khan said in a statement on X.

Khan stressed that sustainable peace could only be achieved through dialogue, bringing together three key parties: the people of Pakistan’s tribal areas, the Afghan government, and the Afghan people. Without their cooperation, he said, “no operation or lasting solution is possible.”

The former premier also criticized ongoing operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, claiming they were politically motivated to weaken the PTI-led provincial government. He warned that military action would only fuel more terrorism, undermine governance, and repeat the policy failures of previous governments.

Calling for urgent steps to stabilize the province, Khan urged Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s lawmakers to work with the chief minister to resolve pressing issues, particularly in flood-affected areas. He added that Achakzai, as an ally, should head a peace mission to Kabul to seek solutions through dialogue.
