ANKARA (AA) – China on Saturday commemorated Martyrs' Day, with a major ceremony in Beijing’s Tian'anmen Square attended by President Xi Jinping and other leaders.
According to the state-run daily Global Times, President Xi and other leaders from the Communist Party of China and the government participated in the ceremony at Tian'anmen Square in downtown Beijing.
"They presented flower baskets to honor the national heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country," the daily reported.
The participants paid silent tribute to their heroes.
The country's Martyrs' Day falls a day before China's National Day.
Every year on Oct. 1, China commemorates the anniversary of its founding in 1949.
