Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar made the remarks at a joint Arab League–Group of Four Islamic Countries ministerial meeting on Jerusalem, convened by Jordan.

Dar thanked Jordan for organizing the meeting and for what he described as its continued role in safeguarding the status and sanctity of Jerusalem and its holy sites.

“The situation still remains concerning,” Dar said, citing what Pakistan described as violations involving Al-Aqsa Mosque, attempts to change the historical and legal status quo, settlement expansion, settler violence and forced displacement.

Pakistan said there should be “no ambiguity” regarding the status of occupied East Jerusalem and argued that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory, including its holy sites.

Dar reaffirmed Pakistan's support for Jordan's custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and for the role of Jordanian institutions responsible for Jerusalem's Islamic endowments and Al-Aqsa Mosque affairs.

He urged Arab and Islamic countries to turn their shared positions into coordinated and sustained diplomatic action.

Pakistan called for international support to preserve the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites, while rejecting unilateral measures aimed at changing the city's character, identity or status.

Dar also urged sustained international attention to developments in Jerusalem and a coordinated response to any violations of the established status quo.

The Pakistani foreign minister also called for the full implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and other relevant Security Council resolutions.

He said ongoing diplomatic efforts had created an opportunity that should be converted into “tangible progress” toward peace.

Pakistan said a lasting settlement must include the realization of Palestinians' right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign, viable and contiguous Palestinian state.

Dar said Pakistan supports such a state based on the pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif, or East Jerusalem, as its capital.

“Pakistan will continue to work closely with Arab and Islamic countries in support of these objectives,” Dar said, stressing that unity and collective resolve were particularly important at the current juncture.
